Strenči Correspondence Club

In spring of 2024 year, responding to an invitation from the Strenči Photography Workshop, the Belgian photographer and mail art enthusiast Thomas Vandenberghe began a visual conversation with artists from Latvia.

Meeting in Strenči in May 2023 for a week-end workshop, the participants in the correspondence – mostly photographers – experimented with different photographic techniques and prepared their own personal messages. Participants engaged in discussions about Mail Art, took photos, developed films, and made prints under the guidance of Thomas Vandenberghe, with assistance from Armands Andže, an expert in analogue photography and the master at Baltic Analogue Lab. After leaving Strenči, the correspondence continued, with more and more participants joining in. This was followed by the establishment of the Strenči Correspondence Club, which grew to 40 members within two months. By August, all works were gathered for the exhibition Equidistant From The Sun.

After the exhibition ended, we forwarded the participants’ letters to one another to ensure their correspondence continued uninterrupted.
