Historically, before the invention and widespread accessibility of colour photography, artists and photographers sought inventive ways to bring colour and unique aesthetics into their black-and-white images. Through the creative use of dyes and less conventional materials, they achieved striking and distinctive results. In this hands-on workshop, participants explored the fascinating world of colourisation, working with a variety of organic, synthetic, and everyday household materials. They discovered how this historic method can inspire creative possibilities for today’s image-makers.

Over the two-day workshop in Strenči, participants delved into the time-honoured art of photographic colourisation.
